Designing a more distinctive downtown Overland Park.
Downtown Overland Park has played a pivotal role in the metro’s heritage for over a century. In more recent years, the city has seen tremendous growth, revitalization and modernization. In the process, it’s become a more sought-after place to visit and work. MBB was tasked with celebrating this transformation by creating a brand identity as vibrant as the area itself.
Positioning a one-of-a-kind place.
Working alongside Downtown OP, we helped them to clearly articulate both their brand attributes and their purpose. This initial discovery exercise informs a more meaningful and intentional brand expression later in our brand development process. With strategic components in place and a fresh brand manifesto developed, we were able move forward with the rebrand.
An idea begins to take flight.
Within the research phase of the project, we quickly identified several things that make Downtown OP tick – beyond just its signature clock tower. It’s hard to envision today, but decades ago the area was home to an airfield. You’ll see it represented in Thompson Park, where a rooftop airplane sculpture covers a stage where musicians and artists gather regularly.
Making Downtown OP’s mark.
The MBB team explored a variety of thematics, but always came back to the idea of the brand’s aviation heritage. It gave the brand a story – an opportunity to invite people to discover more about what makes Downtown OP such a unique and inviting area. We paired an unfolded paper airplane mark with a bold brand color palette and modern fonts to match.
Making our statement in market.
No brand expression is complete without getting your voice and visuals in market. From signage to social posts and banners to bags, we gave the brand the fundamental tools it needed to continue to build upon its personality for years to come.
