This is what goes into an award-winning welcome kit

Each year we set an internal thematic—something we can use as a directive for everything we work on. In 2018, it was to become the best version of MBB that we could. Step #1: Standardize our new hire on-boarding.

They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and while we think a lot about how we greet prospective clients, we weren’t really thinking about how we welcome new hires. Everyone wants to feel welcome on their first day, and our new New Hire Kit was our way to ensure new employees felt like part of the team from day one. Inspired by the journey of starting a new job, we patterned our kit off of vintage travel materials, layering maps, road signs and luggage tags.

A company history booklet, office map and client overviews provided the substance, but the style was where we really had fun.

In addition, we love a good piece of swag, so we wanted the best—funky t-shirts, pennants and enamel pins that our new employees would be proud to display.

After months of writing, design, estimates and coordinating production, we finally had our kit. I think it’s true to the MBB experience—a little weird and irreverent, but most importantly, a solid strategy and design.

Oh, and the gold ADDY doesn’t hurt.
